Marital or civil partnership status changes

If you marry, divorce, enter into or end a civil partnership, your benefits may be affected.

How do I inform you of any changes?

If you are an Active member you should update your personal profile on your local HR system, to indicate your change of status, and you should complete a new SOCPF Death in Service Nomination Form (PDF, 59 kB)

.

Will my benefits be affected on divorce?

If you divorce or your civil partnership is legally dissolved, your benefits in the SOCPF will not be treated as they would be under UK law. This is a very complex area so please read the Pensions on Divorce factsheet and discuss with your legal adviser before you make any decisions or start negotiations about the division of property.

What if I have a partner but I am not married or in a civil partnership?

The Adult Dependants Factsheet explains what you need to do to ensure that your Employing Company is aware of your partner as a dependant in the event of your death in service.

What about death in service benefits?

It is important to make sure you complete a SOCPF Death in Service Nomination Form (PDF, 59 kB)

and keep it up to date. Your Employing Company will then know who you wish to receive the lump sum and take this into account when making a full assessment of your personal circumstances if you die in service.

If you have paid AVCs you should also complete an AVC Death Benefits Nomination Form as well as the SOCPF Death in Service Nomination Form (PDF, 59 kB)

. The value of your AVC fund, returnable on death, is considered separately as it is payable at the discretion of the Trustee and not your Employing Company.
